For Lyndsey - from one Mother to Another.

This post is a very special one, as this beautifully bespoke project was from one mother to another.

Lyndsey contacted me earlier this year to ask about commissioning a special gift for her 40th birthday. She wanted the piece not only as a celebration of her special day, but also as something that could become a part of her family's tapestry and be passed down for generations to come.

Her enquiry instantly excited me; as a firm proponent of the buy less and buy better mindset; the thought of creating a future heirloom was truly exciting.

Lyndsey was an absolute dreamboat of a customer. She came to the table with some ideas and also allowed me to do what I love; dream up a design that would be the perfect representation of her and her two daughters.

We opted for three gemstones for Lyndsey's ring; a peridot and sapphire (to represent her two daughters) and an aquamarine to represent Lyndsey herself. If you're thinking that this combination sounds dreamy; you're right. It absolutely is.

A key consideration for Lyndsey was her being able to wear the ring everyday, along with a ring that belonged to her great grandmother. With this in mind, we opted for 18ct gold; the perfect metal choice for housing her precious gemstones. Lyndsey was keen on a granulated piece (my heart SINGS to create pieces in this style) and so I was mindful that we would need to build the granules up around the claw settings so as to protect the stones from the wear-and-tear of every day life.

As with all of my beautifully bespoke projects, we began with a few sketches before settling on The One

Lyndsey loved the design concept (excitedly sketched in my pocket notebook) and so we began the process of creating her perfectly bespoke future heirloom.
This project spoke to me for so many reasons. The fact that I was able to work on something to symbolise what is, to my core, my reason for being - family - was simply everything. It was also a huge challenge and pushed me in ways I am so very grateful for.
At every point of the process, Lyndsey and I were in touch and so I felt almost sad as the process came to an end - Lyndsey, I so enjoyed talking to and getting to know you. I hope that your ring brings you as much joy today as it did the day that it arrived and that you know how much working on it meant to me.
After weeks of work on the bench, Lyndsey's ring was finally ready for her and I couldn't wait to share some pictures and videos with her.

I always think I am as lucky as the customer commissioning the piece, because the excitement that I feel when I know they're about to receive their piece is truly overwhelming.

Lyndsey, it was such a pleasure to work with you. I am so thankful to have had the opportunity to work on a piece imbued with such love and meaning and I hope that it will be cherished for years to come.
With all of my love, always,

Caitie xxx
